Subject: Reg- The non-availability of vegetarian food in the college canteen


I am a newly appointed staff member of your college and in the few weeks that I have worked here, I found something amiss; which I felt should be brought to your notice. My problem is the lack of vegetarian food at the college canteen.

I am a hard-core vegetarian. As there is no provision at all for pure vegetarian food in the canteen; I’m forced to carry my own lunch and snacks to college daily. And I’m not the only one; a good number of vegetarian staff and students have to bring packed lunch from home too, everyday. Above that, we lack a decent dining place. Sorry if I sound orthodox, but as vegetarians, we find it quite ‘uncomfortable’ to dine in the existing canteen. We have no option, but to have our lunch in the classrooms itself.

What we humbly request for is a separate new “vegetarian” canteen, at a different place within the campus. A new canteen which serves only vegetarian food and is located far away from the existing canteen will be a boon to all the vegetarians in the college. Given the number of vegetarians in the college, I don’t think this is an unreasonable demand. Also, given how much the college invests in improving its infrastructure every year, I believe this will not be a financial burden to the management. Rather, it will actually be a good investment, which will make the college more adequate and perfect.

I hope that my humble request is taken into consideration. This is the only flaw which I found in your otherwise ideal college. I believe my feedback will be taken in good spirits. I don’t intend to condemn anybody’s food choices; I apologize for anything inappropriate on my part. I have faith in the college management to understand our problem and do the needful in this matter.
